Weekly commentary

Welcome to a new content journey with me, Sofia from @upcloseonbeauty. My writing journey started at work, 13 years ago. I never wrote as a child. I believed, either from school or society, that people had one quality. This quality could be translated into a career. I struggled with writing (and maths), as such I distanced myself from the prospect of writing.

Until I started working, that is. I don’t remember being told how the education system and classes could easily be used in life. Perhaps, I was busy daydreaming which is something I’m proficient at. When I started my first job, I quickly realised how key writing is. 

That’s topic for another day perhaps but I did find my voice in this crowded digital world. In order to help my mental health, I decided to block one work lunch break a week for writing. I am making that into a habit. It will become part of my routine and a way to improve my life.

Every week, I will talk of a particular subject, either beauty, fashion, marketing, culture, art, travel, health, you name it! The idea is to write and bring you closer to me as a person. I’m human after all and some weeks I’m sure my topic will be heavier than others.

As a content creator with a full job, I take a lot of my personal time to create content, photograph, attend events, etc. I actually have a 9-5 and managing time isn’t always easy. I’m sure I’m not alone in this journey. I know many of my followers are fellow mothers with full time careers and side hustles. How do we do it? A deep love for what we do. It’s love that fuels our relationships and our work. If it’s good for our creativity and mental health, we’ll find the time! However hard it is at times.

I feel like I’m rambling now – a sign of a good time, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy this new format. Do let me know if there’s any topic of your interest you’d like me to discuss further.
